Instructions For Authors
Getting Started
Authors need to submit their manuscripts through the online submission platform available at https://editorialassist.com/ijhs. Articles submitted as hard copies are not accepted.
All first-time users need to register themselves. Registration is free. Once registered, authors can use their username and password to submit and keep track of their articles. In case of any problems, the author can contact the Technical Assistance at technical.team@scientificscholar.com
Scope and Manuscript Categories
The International Journal of Health Sciences (IJHS) publishes original contributions in the fields of medicine, nursing, public health, and health sciences. Submissions are accepted in the following categories:
- Original Research Articles (empirical and theoretical), including randomized trials, observational studies, and study protocols.
- Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses.
- Case Reports/Series describing rare, novel, or educationally important clinical observations.
- Short Communications report concise but complete research findings.
- Letters to the Editor addressing recently published articles or timely issues in health sciences.
- Editorials and Commentaries (by invitation)
Authors should follow applicable reporting guidance from the EQUATOR Network. Common examples include CONSORT (randomized trials), STROBE (observational studies), SPIRIT (protocols), PRISMA (systematic reviews), CARE (case reports), and ARRIVE (animal research).

Authorship
Authorship
Authorship must be based on the four International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE) criteria:
- Substantial contributions to conception or design, or to data acquisition, analysis, or interpretation;
- Drafting or critical revision of the manuscript;
- Final approval of the version to be published; and
- Accountability for all aspects of the work.
All submissions must include an Author Contributions Statement using the CRediT taxonomy.
If submitted on behalf of a group, at least one author (or a writing committee) must be named and meet ICMJE criteria. Any writing support beyond routine copyediting must be disclosed.
Corresponding Author
Only one corresponding author is permitted. This individual serves as the sole point of contact during submission, peer review, and publication.
Ethical Approval
Research Involving Humans
Research involving human participants must comply with the Declaration of Helsinki and applicable national and institutional regulations. Authors must report:
- Approval by an Institutional Review Board (IRB) or ethics committee, including approval number and date; and
- Confirmation that informed consent was obtained from all participants (and assent from minors, where applicable).
Research Involving Animals
Animal studies must comply with institutional, national, and international animal welfare regulations. Authors must report ethics approval (committee name, approval number, and date) and are encouraged to submit an ARRIVE checklist.
Manuscripts should include: species/strain/sex/age/number; housing/husbandry; anesthesia/analgesia/euthanasia (if applicable); steps to minimize pain/distress; and justification for animal use when alternatives are not suitable.
Research Integrity
IJHS follows the standards of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE). Plagiarism, duplicate publication, data fabrication, image manipulation, and gift authorship will not be tolerated. Allegations of misconduct will be managed in accordance with COPE guidelines.
Conflicts of Interest
All authors must disclose any financial or non-financial competing interests in accordance with ICMJE recommendations. Submissions must include an ICMJE Uniform Disclosure Form, and disclosures must appear in the manuscript’s Declarations section.
Clinical Trials Registration
In accordance with ICMJE policy, all clinical trials must be registered in an approved public registry before enrollment of the first participant. Manuscripts reporting unregistered trials will not be considered for peer review.
Registries must meet WHO ICTRP requirements. Trial registration details must be included in the manuscript.
Open Science Practices
To promote transparency and reproducibility, authors are encouraged to prospectively register observational studies, systematic reviews, and meta-analyses (eg, PROSPERO, OSF) where appropriate. Authors should make study protocols, analysis plans, code, or de-identified data available when this can be done ethically and legally. All research manuscripts must include a Data Availability Statement describing how the underlying data can be accessed or explaining any justified restrictions.
Manuscript Preparation and Organization
Formatting
Manuscripts must be prepared in American English, double-spaced, using 12-point Times New Roman, with margins of 2·5 cm on all sides. Pages must be numbered consecutively.
Where appropriate, authors may be advised to obtain professional scientific language editing; however, Language editing does not influence editorial decisions.
Title Page (separate file)
The title page (submitted as a separate file) must include: full title; running title (≤45 characters); author names, affiliations, and ORCID iDs; corresponding author contact details; funding information; word counts; trial registration (if applicable); and competing interest statements.
Abstract and Keywords
Abstract required for all except editorials/commentaries/letters. Use 3–6 keywords (preferably MeSH).
Main Text Structure
Manuscripts should be structured, as appropriate to the study design, into Introduction, Methods, Results, and Discussion sections. The Methods section must provide sufficient detail to allow reproducibility and must clearly state ethical approval and informed consent where applicable.
References
References must follow ICMJE (Vancouver) style and be numbered in order of appearance.
Tables and Figures
Tables
Tables should be submitted at the end of the manuscript file and numbered consecutively in the order of first citation. Each table must have a concise, descriptive title and include clear column headings. All abbreviations must be defined in footnotes. Tables should be self-explanatory and must not duplicate information presented in the text or figures.
Figures
Figures must be submitted as separate files in TIFF or JPEG format and cited in the text in numerical order. Minimum resolution requirements are as follows: 300 dpi for colour or grayscale photographs, 1200 dpi for line art, and 600 dpi for combination images.
All patient identifiers must be removed. If a figure contains identifiable patient information, authors must obtain and confirm written consent for publication. Image adjustments (eg, brightness, contrast, or colour balance) are permitted only if applied uniformly and without altering or misrepresenting the original data; any such adjustments must be disclosed. Permission must be obtained for previously published figures, with appropriate acknowledgement in the legend.
